Congenital Heart Disease Diagnoses in the United States
Pulmonary Valve Stenosis is most commonly diagnosed is patients under 5 years old, when the pulmonary artery is not done growing. Any non-expandable stent inserted would quickly become too small to be effective, and multiple follow-up operations would be necessary to periodically replace the component with a larger stent. Repeated operations on the same tissue are both high-cost and high-risk, creating significant challenges in providing long-term solutions for very young PVS patients.
